The Rincon de la Vieja National Park has 2 main trails in the Las Pailas Sector that are currently open for the visitors.
The 2 miles (3.2 km) Las Pailas trail cuts through tropical dry and wet forests with stops at various secondary volcanic activities. Secondary volcanoes consist of: fumaroles which are common features on active volcanos that idicate the presence of heat. Surrunding the fumaroles you will discover a fumarolic lagoon, a quixotic pond of volcanic minerals.
Located around the surface of the volcano you can spot the water pots, as costaricans say, ¨pailas de agua¨. It´s quite mesmerizing to watch the bubbles continuously bursting forth. Along the trails, you will notice a mini volcano draping the landscape of wet forest and a variety of flora.
